New legislation, effective from
1 October 2006, means that employers
can no longer discriminate against
employees on grounds of age.
The new law – the Employment
Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 –
applies in England, Scotland and
Wales,1 and provides protection
against age discrimination in
employment, training and adult
education, for people of all ages.
Age Concern has produced this
mini-guide to provide a summary
of who will benefit from the new
laws, and how you can take action– as well as showing you where to find more information.
Similar regulations are being introduced in Northern Ireland.
